Eager to see if I fit this type A mold, I sat down this weekend and figured out that I have not one, but FIVE full-time jobs: I’m a freelance writer, I’m promoting my latest book, I’m a professional speaker, I’m working on my next book, I do my family and business finances (which takes more monetary juggling than a budget session in Congress), and I’m a mom. Actually, that’s six jobs. Chalk up the fact that I can’t count to having no brain cells left by the time my morning latte wears off. Ironically, the mom job takes the biggest chunk of my time, yet it’s the one I’m not paid to do (in terms of money, anyway—the other rewards more than make up for my dalliance with poverty).
MY POINT BEING…
Being busy is my overused excuse as to why it’s taken me so long to acknowledge and thank the people who have recently bestowed blogging awards upon me. For those of you who don’t blog, here’s a brief rundown on how blogging awards work. Occasionally (if you’re lucky) fellow bloggers nominate you for blogging awards as a way to bring recognition to your blog. In return you thank the kind bloggers that awarded you, pay it forward by nominating bloggers you like for the same award, then they pass it on, and so on. The idea is to help build readership for deserving blogs.
Well, back on March 25 Jules, who writes the blog J85, gave me the Versatile Blogger Award on my post Toastmasters Will Save My Memory (Unless I Forget to Go to Meetings). Even though I’ve won this award twice before, I still appreciate that Jules liked my blog well enough to give me this award. I’d like to thank her by encouraging you all to go check out her blog. She’s a single mom, also juggling multiple jobs and parenthood, so I already feel like a kindred spirit with her, and I love reading her stories.
Then on April 9, Tina, who writes the blog Mrs. D. Ranged in AZ (A progressive liberal in the literal and figurative desert of Arizona) gave me the ABC (Awesome Blog Content) Award for my blog Camp Humble. (BTW, if there was an award for best blog title I’d have to give it to Mrs. D. Ranged in AZ. That blog handle makes me laugh every time I see it come up in my e-mail.) Tina is also a single mom who works, and her blog gives her POV on political, social and personal issues. I recommend you check out her blog no matter which end of the political spectrum you’re on because it’s always good to get ALL perspectives outside CNN and Fox News.
For the ABC Award I’m supposed to list 26 things about me in alphabetical order. In the interest of brevity how about this:
- Always late
- Beleaguered
- Catatonic
- Determined to skip to…
- Zero time left
Thank you to both these lovely and articulate ladies for taking the time to read my blog and then going the extra mile to give me awards for it. I really appreciate your support.
Now in turn I’m supposed to pick (and list) 15 bloggers whom I think deserve the Versatile Blogger Award and five for the ABC Award. Given that I’ve already won several other blogging awards (look to your right on this page), I’m running low on recommendations because I can only follow and read so many blogs. So I’m going back to my lame excuse that there aren’t enough hours in the day and thus list only four bloggers for each award, for a total of eight. Here they are:
MY PICKS FOR THE VERSATILE BLOGGER AWARD:
I Have Kids! When Did That Happen?
Best Intentions Mom
Martinis and Minivans
Lipstick and Playdates
MY PICKS FOR THE ABC (AWESOME BLOG CONTENT) AWARD:
Finding Wonder Woman
Finally… Wendy Wanders
Memoirs of an Evil Stepmom
Lynn Loves Editing
So if you I gave you Versatile Blogger Award please pass it on to 15 of your favorite bloggers, and if I gave you the ABC Award do the same to your top five bloggers and list 26 things about yourself in alphabetical order in your next blog. And in both cases, don’t forget to copy the appropriate blog award graphic onto your own blog theme, so everyone who stops by your blog can see you’ve won this award!
Then again, if you’re too busy to do all that you can always borrow my not-enough-hours-in-day excuse. Or buy a Medieval torture rack so you can stretch yourself REALLY thin. (Wait, what?)
